I do run lighter workloads on my personal laptop but my point is you never know what may be coming.

My work laptop was upgraded to 16 GB and it is sooo much better. My work laptop used to be 8GB and it ran like a dog with teams open and any other apps such as Word or Excel. For example, I use MS Team on my work laptop (soon on my personal as well). To me the unknown is Windows 11 and what that will require along with any updated apps. Again it's to be able to run anything else down the road. However, I am planning on upgrading and am going with the 16GB model. I have a 8GB SP5 that had done me well for the last few years. The hard drive is upgradeable, so you don't need to get anything larger than 256 as you can swap it out later with something bigger as needed.Įven at $400, you may still want to consider going for 16GB. As most have said, it's about future proofing your systems as these Surfaces are expensive. Thus for that, I do highly recommend going for the extra memory. First off, what country are you in? Reason I ask is that here in the US, the price delta btw the 8 and 16 models is only $200.
